Sales Plans
A sales planSales planA sales goal for a period, product by product and location by location, usually seeded from last year's sales plus a growth percentage. It never changes the forecast: its targets are shown next to it in the Supply view's sales-plan chart, and the plan's **Analytics** tab shows whether you're on track. Plan numbers start with SP-. Part of Inventory Planning on the Elevate plan. Read more → is a sales goal. It sets a target for each product at each location, day by day over the plan’s dates, in units and in revenue. Logistified starts every target from last year’s sales and your growth, and then tracks the plan against what actually sells.

What a sales plan is
Section titled “What a sales plan is”A sales plan answers “how much do we want to sell, of what, where and when?”
- Per product and location. Each product is planned at every location of the plan, from that location’s own sales. See Plans at several locations.
- Day by day. Targets follow last year’s seasonal shape. You can view and edit them by week, month, quarter or year.
- Units and revenue. Revenue is units × the product’s price, unless you type your own. See Revenue.
- Tracked against actual sales. The Analytics tab compares the plan with what sold, and Confirmed or Locked plans show up next to the forecast in the Supply view.
A sales plan is a goal, not a forecast. It never changes your forecast or your reorder suggestions. See What a sales plan can’t do.
Sales Plans are part of the Elevate plan. On a lower plan you can review existing plans but not create or change them.
When to use one
Section titled “When to use one”Use a sales plan when you want to set a number and see whether you hit it:
- a season or year ahead, for example “15% more than last autumn at every store”,
- a target per store, with a bigger push at one of them,
- a revenue goal you want to follow week by week.
Use something else when the sales are expected rather than wished for:
- a customer has announced a large order: use an inventory commitment, which adds that demand to the forecast,
- a product is new and has no sales of its own: use New Product Planning,
- a holiday or sale lifts demand every year: add a promotional event.
The list
Section titled “The list”Open Inventory Planning and click the Sales Plans tile. The list shows:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Sales plan | The name and, under it, the plan number. Click it to open the plan. |
| Locations | The plan’s locations, for example Berlin, Hamburg +1, or All (6) for a plan on all locations. |
| Products | How many products the plan has. |
| Target units | All targets added up. |
| Status | Draft, Confirmed, Locked, Completed or Cancelled. An amber Window elapsed tag means the plan’s dates are over but it is still open. |
| Plan window | The plan’s start and end dates. |
| Updated | When the plan last changed. |
Target units can have decimals, because targets are planned day by day to two decimal places.
Sorting. Click the Sales plan, Status, Plan window or Updated header to sort the list. A second click reverses the order, a third goes back to the default: newest plans first. The small arrow next to Sales plan chooses what that column sorts by: Name, Plan number or Created date.
The … menu on a row has View/Edit Details, and Delete for plans in Draft, Completed or Cancelled.
Export to CSV. Export in the page header downloads the plans on the current page as a CSV file, not every plan matching your filters. Tick rows first to export only those: the toolbar then shows “3 selected” and Export 3. The file has the plan number, name, locations, products, target units, status, plan window and last update. For exporting a single plan with its targets, see Exports, documents & activity.
To find plans, use the search box, filters and saved presets above the list. See Search, filters & saved views.
The plan page
Section titled “The plan page”The header shows the plan number, the plan name and when the plan was created. On the right, the status steps show where the plan is: Draft, Confirmed, Locked, Completed. Hover a step to read what it means for a sales plan, for example “Targets are locked in and tracked against actual sales”.
In the row with the tabs, on the right, are Edit details, the next-step button (Confirm, Lock, Complete or Reopen) and the Actions menu. Actions holds Edit details again, the other status changes, Quick PDF export, Export, the location actions and Delete. See Statuses on a sales plan.
The plan has five tabs:
| Tab | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Products | One row per product with its growth, last year’s sales and targets. The number in brackets counts the products shown at the selected location. See Products, growth & targets. |
| Plan | The plan grid: targets per product and period. See The plan grid. |
| Analytics | The plan against actual sales. See Plan analytics. |
| Documents | Files attached to the plan, with their count in brackets. See Exports, documents & activity. |
| Activity | A log of every change to the plan, and your comments. |
The location switcher. On a plan with more than one location, a switcher sits next to the tabs. Pick a single location, or All locations for the whole plan. The plan opens on All locations. It applies to the Products, Plan and Analytics tabs. Each location shows its planned units, and a location with nothing planned is highlighted. See Plans at several locations.
Location notices. When something about the plan’s locations needs your attention, a folded row, Location notices, sits at the top of the Products tab. Click it to read the notices: for example “Nothing planned at 1 of 3 locations.”, with the reason, or new Shopify locations you can add with Sync locations. See Location notices.
The Details card is at the top of the Products tab:
- Name
- Plan window: start and end date, and the number of days.
- Products: how many products, and how many location targets when the plan has several locations.
- Locations: the first few names, with +N more to see the rest. A plan on all locations reads, for example, Locations (6 · All).
- Demand type, Reason and Source, only when they are set.
- Notes: click to add or edit notes. They save when you click away.
A sales plan has no probability and no recipient.
When the plan is Locked, Completed or Cancelled, a Read-only banner says so and what to do: “This plan is Locked. Release it to make changes.”, “This plan is Completed and is read-only. Reopen it to make changes.” or “This plan is Cancelled and can no longer be changed.”
Statuses on a sales plan
Section titled “Statuses on a sales plan”A sales plan uses the same five statuses as every plan: Draft, Confirmed, Locked, Completed and Cancelled. On a sales plan they are about tracking targets, never about the forecast. The button next to Actions is always the next step; the other moves are in the Actions menu.
| Status | Next-step button | Also in Actions |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Confirm: “Lock in this plan’s targets” | Cancel |
| Confirmed | Lock: “Freeze the plan from further edits” | Complete: “Close the period. Attainment figures stay available”, Back to Draft, Cancel |
| Locked | Complete | Release: “Unfreeze the plan so its targets can be edited again”, Cancel |
| Completed | Reopen: “Move back to Confirmed and track its targets again” | none |
| Cancelled | none | none: a cancelled plan can’t be moved again |
- What you can edit. Only a Draft or Confirmed plan can be changed: its details and notes, its products, growth, targets and revenue, its locations, documents and comments.
- What Locked prevents. A Locked plan is frozen: every tab is read-only and Edit details, Add products and the location actions are gone. Its targets still count in the Supply view and on the Analytics tab. Release it to edit again.
- An empty plan can’t be confirmed. On a Draft without products, Confirm is greyed out: “This sales plan has no products. Add at least one product before confirming.”
- Completing early. Completing a plan before its window ends asks first, Complete this plan early?, and explains that the forecast stays the same: only the plan’s remaining targets leave the sales plan comparison.
- Cancelling always asks first, because it can’t be undone.
The full rules for every plan type are on Plan statuses & lifecycle.
Edit details
Section titled “Edit details”Click Edit details (also in the Actions menu). The dialog, titled with the plan number, has three sections:
- Plan Details: Name. Leave it empty to use the plan number.
- Timing: the Plan window, with the same quick periods as when you created the plan, or a Start date and End date.
- Categorization: Demand type, Reason, Source and Notes. The demand types, reasons and sources are the ones you set up in Inventory Planning settings, and you can also type a new one here.
Click Save changes. Edit details is only available while the plan is Draft or Confirmed.
Changing the plan window
Section titled “Changing the plan window”Targets are built for the plan’s dates. So when you move the start or end date of a plan that has products, Logistified asks first, for example “Re-seed 40 products at 3 locations?”:
The new window rebuilds every target from last year’s sales in that window × each product’s growth. Hand edits and revenue overrides are replaced.
- Re-seed targets saves the new dates and rebuilds every target from last year’s sales at each location, for the new dates.
- Keep current window goes back to the dialog without saving, so you can change the dates back.
What a re-seed keeps and what it replaces:
- Kept: each product’s growth at each location, so a product at +30% is seeded again at +30%. A product at -100% stays at 0.
- Replaced: every target, including your changes in the plan grid and on the Products tab, and every revenue you typed by hand. Revenue goes back to units × price.
- Unsaved changes are discarded too, and the prompt says how many products they cover. They are only discarded once the re-seed has worked: if it fails, the old dates and your unsaved changes stay.
Logistified then confirms, for example “Re-seeded 120 targets for the new plan window”, and names any location where a product had no sales last year (its target there is 0).
Only a date change re-seeds. Saving the name, the categorization or the notes leaves the targets alone, and a plan without products changes its dates without asking. The window can be at most 1,100 days; a longer one is refused under End date, for example “This window is 1,101 days long. A plan can span at most 1,100 days.”
Saving changes
Section titled “Saving changes”Edits on the Products tab and in the plan grid are not saved one by one. They wait in one bar at the bottom of the page, for example “Unsaved changes: 2 products · 6 location targets” on a plan with several locations, or “Unsaved changes: 2 products” on a plan with one.
- Save changes saves every change, on every tab and at every location, in one go. Logistified confirms how many targets were saved, for example “Saved 6 targets”.
- Discard changes throws them all away. If some of them are at locations you aren’t looking at, the bar says so (“Includes 3 location targets at other locations (saved too).”) and Logistified asks first: Discard all unsaved changes?, with Keep editing or Discard all changes.
While a growth change is loading last year’s sales, the bar reads “Loading last year’s sales…” and Save changes waits for it.
Your changes stay while you switch tabs or locations. If you try to leave the plan with unsaved changes, an Unsaved changes dialog asks you to Stay or Leave without saving.
While the plan has unsaved changes, Lock, Complete and Cancel are greyed out with “Save or discard your changes first”.
What a sales plan can’t do
Section titled “What a sales plan can’t do”- It doesn’t feed the forecast. Targets never change forecast or reorder quantities, in any status. While the plan is Confirmed or Locked, its targets show next to the forecast for comparison only: on the Elevate plan, in the Supply view’s Sales plans chart above the table and in the cards. See Plans in the forecast and Supply view.
- It doesn’t create orders. A sales plan has no order actions. To buy stock for it, order through the forecast. See Order stock for a plan.
- It doesn’t freeze when completed. Completing a sales plan closes the period, but its Analytics keep updating if a late order lands inside the plan’s dates.
To see how a plan is doing, use its Analytics tab: plan against actual sales, to date and for the whole window. See Plan analytics.
