Inventory Planning settings

The Inventory Planning settings hold the lists you pick from when you categorise a plan, the templates for exporting plans, and the format of plan numbers. They apply to your whole shop.

These settings are open on every subscription plan. New Product Planning and Promotional Events need the Enhanced plan, Inventory Commitments and Sales Plans the Elevate plan; see Plan requirements.

Open Settings and, under Orders & Documents, click Inventory Planning. The page has four tabs: Demand Types, Reason Codes, Sources and Export templates.

Plan numbers are set on a separate page, Settings › Document Numbering; see Plan numbers.

These three lists give your plans consistent labels, so you can sort, filter and report on them later:

  • Demand Types: what kind of demand a plan is.
  • Reason Codes: why you expect it.
  • Sources: where it comes from.

They appear as Demand type, Reason and Source on inventory commitments and sales plans. Launch plans don’t use them. The labels are for your records only and never change the forecast.

A new shop starts with these values, all of which you can change or delete:

ListStarting values
Demand TypesPromotion, Seasonal, New Customer, Contract, Tender, Event, Other
Reason CodesMarketing Campaign, Customer Forecast, Historical Trend, Sales Commitment, Other
SourcesSales Team, Customer, Marketing, Management, Other

On each tab you can:

  • Add a value with the Add button: give it a Name, a Color and an optional Description.
  • Edit a value with the pencil button (Edit option) on its row.
  • Delete a value with the bin button (Delete option) on its row, after confirming.

Each name can be used once per list, whatever its capitals. Adding a duplicate shows, for example, “A demand type option named “Promotion” already exists”.

Renaming or deleting never changes existing plans. A plan keeps the name it was given. A deleted value just no longer appears when you pick one.

You don’t have to come here to add a value. In a plan’s Demand type, Reason or Source field, type a new name and choose Create demand type ”…” (or Create reason ”…”, Create source ”…”). It’s added to the list here too.

  1. Open Settings › Inventory Planning. The Demand Types tab is open.

  2. Click Add. The “Add Demand Type” dialog opens.

  3. Enter a Name, for example Wholesale order, pick a Color, and add a Description if it helps your team.

  4. Click Add. Logistified confirms with “Option added”, and the new type is in the list, ready to pick on any commitment or sales plan.

The Export templates tab decides what your plan exports look like. The same templates are used by all three plan types. There are three kinds:

  • PDF: the layout of a plan’s PDF. Options include Show barcode column and Show unit price.
  • Inventory Plan XLSX/CSV: one row per product in the plan. Choose the columns and their order.
  • Inventory Plan Level XLSX/CSV: one row per plan, for exporting a whole list of plans.

Click New template in a section to create one. Tick Set as default in the template to make it the one used when you don’t pick another, for example by Quick PDF export on a plan page.

How exporting works is described in Exports, documents & activity.

Every plan gets a number when you create it. Out of the box, plans are numbered by type:

  • Inventory commitments: IC-00001, IC-00002, …
  • Sales plans: SP-00001, …
  • New product plans: NP-00001, …

You can switch to your own format instead. Open Settings › Document Numbering and find the Inventory planning section, with one card for Inventory commitments, Sales plans and New product plans each.

  • The format comes pre-filled with the plan type’s prefix (IC-, SP- or NP-) and six digits, one more than the built-in numbers above. Change the Prefix (optional), Year, Digits, Separator and Suffix as you like. Next number previews the result.
  • Under Starting number, choose Continue from existing to carry on from the plans you already have, or Start at 1.
  • Click Activate numbering. From now on, new plans of that type use your format. Existing plans keep their numbers.

Until you activate a custom format for a plan type, its list shows a Custom document numbers note at the top with a Configure in Settings link.

Most planning choices belong to a single plan, not to the shop, so they’re made on the plan itself:

  • Launch plans: the similar products, volume, launch date, horizon, Feed into forecast and Stop feeding on first real sale. See New Product Planning.
  • Sales plans: the plan window, locations and growth. See Sales Plans.
  • Size groups: the sizes and their split. See Size groups.
  • Promotional events: each event’s dates and uplift. See Promotional events.
